Shasta Lake has been getting a lot of press lately, mainly surrounding the lower than normal lake levels and the new wild land fires at the north end of the lake.  To be very clear, we are fishing the lower lake near the dam every day and there is still well over 300' feet of water in many of the main river channels.  Fishing has been terrific and our clients are leaving the boat dock at the end of the day with heavy bags of salmon and trout fillets.  Rainbow trout, King salmon, Kokanee salmon, and some brown trout are being caught most days we fish.  We are catching salmon and trout every day, even on the tougher bite days.  It seems the biggest factor involved in how many fish our clients take home has a lot to do with how many fish come unbuttoned before making it into the net.  45 to 55' feet deep is producing the best, but we are starting to see more salmon in 65 to 70' feet deep the past few days.  People lookig to fish Shasta Lake in the coming weeks should consider securing accomodations in the Redding area.  Some of the areas on the north end of the lake are currently being affected by the Salt Fire.  The lake itself has not been affected as of yet, but the fire is a little close for comfort in the Antlers, Lakehead, and Salt Creek areas.  Again, we are fishing over ten miles from any fire activity near the lake and we are safely fishing our scheduled trips daily.  If for any reason we determine that there is even a slight safety issue for our clients, we will promptly advise them of the changing conditions.  This is something we deal with every summer now and we closely monitor fire activity daily throughout the summer season.  If you have any questions or concerns about fishing on Shasta Lake this summer, please send an email or give us a call for the latest conditions on the lake.  Thank you!
