Dave and a couple of his buddies Drove 5 hours from Oraville to partake in
the Excellent Albacore Fishery here in Monterey. They went out on 08/26/2003
aboard the vessel CHUBASCO. There were a total of 6 Anglers for the day
that returned with 65 Albacore all weighing 20-30 pounds each. Dave managed to
land 12 of those feisty fish.

Monterey, CA - today we fished on the Sur Randy out of Randys Fishing Trips in Monterey! The conditions werent right to fish for Halibut so we went straight after the Salmon. Since the bite had been over in Santa Cruz for the past few days we made the trip across the bay to the Soquel Hole. There were tons of boats. The deckhand Josh said that it looked like opening day. Well the bite had been good for the past few days but the pressure was maximum. I was fortunate to hook up into a King Salmon early in the morning. Here it is coming in!

The crowds were rough! Heres a decent picture of the Chubasco. The Chubasco runs out of the same landing as the Sur Randy, Randys Fishing Trips. As I was boarding this morning I checked out the Chubasco. It looks like a very nice boat! Nice wide stern!

Angler Dennis Evans proudly displays a "Jackpot winning" 18 pound King Salmon! Congratulations Dennis on a nice fish. Catching King Salmon is fun. They do not give up easy! Dennis caught this Salmon mooching with a dead anchovy in about 180 feet of water.

When we got back to dock there were about 6 huge sea lions waiting to eat the Salmon carcasses which must be filleted or steaked at the dock according to regulations. The sea lions wait for the free meal. Its almost like they are homeless sea lions. Maybe one day Mr. Orca will wander into the harbor!

Thank the GODS!
I finally caught and landed MY FIRST KING SALMON! Last year I had the sea lion eat my King Salmon as I was reeling it in! Whew! I am happy! Thank you Chrissy and Randys Fishing Trips! I hope to return sometime to maybe go rockfishing once the season opens!

On Friday, August 9th we fished with Captain Billy aboard the Sur Randy. We departed around 6 AM. The weather was incredible we had no swell and a very slight breeze. It was unusually warm for Monterey Bay. We fished for Halibut and Salmon. Pictured here is Chrissy Chonacki from Randy Fishing Trips with a nice California Halibut caught on a live Sardine!
