WHAT BAIT TO USE!!

Stripers - Anchovies, Sardines

Catfish - Chicken Liver, Anchovies, Sardines and Night Crawlers. Catfish tend to not be interested in any lures.

Trout - Power bait, Night Crawlers, have been working well. Trout also love lures such as Panther Martins, Kastmaster, Rooster Tails, and all types of small Spinners, Atomic Tubes

Largemouth/ Smallmouth - Plastic Worms have been a good choice, another good choice is Jigs or Drop Shots, various spinners

Crappie/Panfish - Night Crawlers, Redworms, and little Micro Jigs have been working good as well.

Don’t forget that to fish at Lake Del Valle, everyone ages 16 and older must have a Lake Del Valle Fishing permit and a California Fishing License. The Lake Del Valle permit is $5.00 per day. They can be purchased at either the entry kiosk or the Marina/Bait Store. The California Fishing License is $17.54 per day or $54.00 per year for a Resident of California. The California Fishing License can be purchased at the Marina/Bait Store. Also, a reminder after all fish plants please make sure you wait 2 hours before fishing the plant.

The fish are biting! We got this fantastic write up from Paul Clouse –

The Smallmouth Bass fishing just gets better each week! I trolled Lake Del Valle on September 30, 2022, specifically targeting Smallmouth Bass and had the best day yet. A  total of 12 fish inclusive of 10 Smallies, one Striper, and one Bluegill were landed and safely  released. The Smallies were all nice quality ranging from three quarters of a pound with  four of the ten weighting 2.0 to 3.3 pounds. Photo of the 3.3 Smallie and 4-pound striper below. Most of the fish were caught in the Heron Bay flats off the various points as well as off the rock walls of the eastern shoreline. i used the usual 1/4-ounce silver blade with feathers Panther Martin spinners and the Panther Martin 1/4-ounce Sonic Streamer with the silver blade and feathers. The larger Smallies hit on the Sonic Streamer. The fish were caught in the 25–35-foot water columns at twenty feet below the surface. Various scents were applied to the lures. The surface water temperature remained consistent with last week at 71 degrees. The weather was sunny and quite warm with a nice breeze. A big thanks to Kenny and Taylor for all the help in getting me on and off the water safely. With the Smallie fishing getting better each week I will return next week for another day of great fishing at Lake Del Valle!
