EAST WALKER RIVER

The East is running at about 117 cfs today, it sat at about 130 for most of the last week but dropped a little yesterday. The fishing down there has been pretty good with lots of anglers coming in reporting 15 to 20 fish days. The dry action has slowed up quite a bit from previous weeks but the nymphing is still good and we’ve started to get some pretty good streamer reports lately. The cold weather this past week has kept the water temps down and the fish are very happy and healthy right now. There are lots of 10 to 16 inch fish being caught throughout the river as well as some fish going from 18 to 2 inches. There is a fair amount of pressure down there and the fish seem to be a bit picky so be sure to get your drifts dead and your bugs near the bottom. Don’t be afraid to change flies up often until you find out what they really want to eat.

Patterns to try: Rainbow warrior, silver streak, san juan worm, squirmy wormy,  micro mayflies, top secret midge, darth baetis, buckskin caddis, LaFontaines deep sparkle pupa, z-wing caddis, Fox’s poopah, sculpzilla, zuddler, moal leech, JJ special, dead drift crayfish.

SCEIRINE RANCH

The ranch is also fishing well, there are still a few stones around so in addition to the upper flies you can still fish some stonefly nymphs. With the lower water a dry/dropper rig may work as well. The ranch is booking out a while in advance so if you want some time down there try to give us a call ahead of time.

HUNEWILL POND

We didn’t have anyone on the pond this week, the wind kind of made it pretty tough out there. We’ll get you some information as soon as we can!

BRIDGEPORT RESERVOIR

The fishing on the Reservoir tapered off a little bit this week, also the wind kept a lot of anglers off the water. On the more non-windy days the fishing was still pretty good with a good number of 5 and 6 pounders caught as well as a bunch of fish in the 2 to 4 pound range. The fish haven’t moved all the way up into Buckeye Bay just yet and are still pretty active out in front of the Marina as well as off of Rainbow Point. Trolling has still been pretty good with Rapalas, night crawlers, Thomas bouyants, needlefish and speedy shiners. Bait anglers are having success with inflated crawlers, pinched crawlers, mice tails and power bait. We haven’t heard much from the fly anglers lately but stripping streamers is probably going to be a good bet right now.

KIRMAN LAKE

No news from Kirman this week, if we hear anything next week we’ll pass it on.

TWIN LAKES

Anglers on the Twins are still getting into some nice fish in the 2 to 5 pound range, both trolling and bait fishing. There’s also been some good fish being caught casting lures off the shore in the mornings and evenings. The fly anglers have been catching some fish stripping leech patterns near the inlets with sinking lines as well. Rapalas, crawlers, Thomas bouyants for the trolling, powerbait, mice tails and crawlers for the bait anglers.

WEST WALKER RIVER

The West is shaping up nicely, the flows have come down and the water has cleared up quite a bit. It’s still a little cold up there but expect the fishing to get pretty good over the next week. The hoppers are starting to come out so the fly anglers should be able to get some good action with hopper/dropper rigs very soon. Bait anglers can go with mini crawlers and salmon eggs and lure anglers should do well with Panther Martins and Rooster tails.

VIRGINIA LAKES

We has lots of really good reports from the Virginias and Trumbull the last couple days, we heard it was a little crowded but the fishing was good. Both Big and Little produced some fish over 3 pounds this week and Trumbull had lots of good numbers of brookies and holdover rainbows. Bait anglers have been using inflated crawlers, powerbait, pinched crawlers and mice tails, lure anglers are using Kastmasters, Thomas Bouyants and mini jigs. Fly anglers are using small leech patterns, soft hackles and zug bugs.
