A great report from Mazatlan this week that reflects the annual dorado bite has taken off at the "Buoys". Geronimo's youngest son, 12 year old Santiago Cevallos, landed 23 dorado for the morning, keeping a couple for dinner and releasing all but two, while fishing aboard the super panga, "Anzuelo II". It was hot, fast, action and the hot bait was ballyhoo. The biggest dilemma right now is the lack of anglers caused by the NEVER WAS SWINE FLU. There were only 4 super panga days this past week that reflected a total of 26 dorado, (21 released) 6 vaqueta, 15 lenguas, 6 cochitos, 1 pargo, 8 barracuda and 10 sierra. The offshore catches for 5 days fished reflected a single sailfish, 1 mako shark and 13 dorado. During the next few weeks, look for a sustained dorado bite at the buoys as the fish continue to build-up and the easy limit fishing gets underway for this year.

Mazatlan Climate: A few partly cloudy days but warm and pleasant weather that ranged from 64 nights to 89 daytime highs.

Sea Conditions: Calm! Temps are holding at 79 inshore and rising to 80 offshore.

Best Fishing Area: The buoys for the dorado and on out to the southwest at 22-30 miles for the billfish, albeit, there is currently no concentration offshore.

Best Lure/Bait: The sailfish and mako shark were taken on slow trolled rigged mullet.

The following reflects the fewest charter fishing days I have ever reported for from Cabo San Lucas, over the past 20-plus years or so. The flu scare has literally emptied the town and still, not a single flu report from the lower Baja. The overall report for a total of 11 combined fishing days reflected 8 stripers, all released, 1 yellowfin tuna and 15 dorado, with all fish taken easterly from Cabo...... Read More
