Access is limited in lower Mammoth Creek by private land that is posted closed to trespassing. Please respect private property rights and obey signs and other postings. Surface ice often makes fishing a little difficult in lower Mammoth Creek, Asay Creek and the upper Sevier River. Target warm, sunny days when the ice breaks up. You can find fair to good success for brown trout on those days with a variety of lures and flies. Winter is also a good time to target whitefish with nymphs as they congregate in deep pools. Access is difficult in upper Mammoth Creek due to snow and ice. Fishing conditions vary throughout the spring as the snow melts and runoff makes fishing difficult. Once runoff subsides, fishing should pick up. The ice typically melts in early-to-mid April. As the water warms up, you can find fair to good fishing for rainbow trout, brown trout and yellow perch from shore or boats. You're also likely to find tiger and splake trout that were washed down from Forsyth Reservoir when it was drained in 2021. Wipers have also been stocked in recent years and are now growing large enough to catch. Focus on shallow, warm water when targeting wipers in the spring. Most roads have gates that are locked during the winter, so it is best to contact the Fishlake National Forest Fillmore Ranger District to find out when access is open. Spring fishing can be difficult with runoff, but that usually subsides by late May. Notice: The parasite that causes whirling disease is known to occur in Mammoth Creek. Please prevent the spread of whirling disease by thoroughly cleaning mud from your waders after fishing here, and letting them dry completely before wading at another location. Do not transport fish or their parts from Mammoth Creek to other waters.
