The dorado counts returned with a vengeance and bit well even over the full moon offering about a 5 fish per boat average. The billfish action remained slow, probably due to a lack of feed biomass on the banks and also the massive schools of stripers that infiltrate this are have yet to appear in the offshore waters outside Magdalena Bay. Right now, the water temps are higher than normal by 4-5 degrees, from above Mag Bay and all the way to Cabo, which may be taking a toll on the arrival of the stripers this season? Still, there is sufficient alternate catch action to keep one's interest up, including the yellowfin tuna, wahoo and dorado. Overall combined counts for 45 days fished reflected 8 stripers released, 2 sailfish released, 3 wahoo, 10 yellowfin tuna, (look for the tuna counts to jump this week with the commencement of the WON Tuna Jackpot Tournament) 10 roosterfish and 4 sierra.

Cabo Climate: Mostly sunny and near perfect weather with temps from 67 nights to 83 daytime highs.

Sea Conditions: Light surface breezes and little swell is making for great tournament fishing opportunities. Temps on the Pacific side from the Finger Bank to Cabo are 80-81 degrees, with the exception to Jaime Bank at 82-83. From Chileno Bay out to the "95" and northerly to the Cabrillo Seamount and back into the Gorda Banks at 83.

Best Fishing Areas: All of the better fishing continues to be on the Pacific side of the peninsula with billfish right at Cabo Falso drop- off and dorado scattered along the Cristobal Ridge to the Golden Gate Bank.

Best Lure/Bait: Live bait was best for the billfish. Dorado were pretty active on the live bait, too, but were also eager on a variety of artificials. Roosterfish were all on live bait.

Live Bait Supply: Good supply of caballitos for the beginning of the Tournament.
