THE GAVIOTA SPORTFISHING FLEET AND FISH CABO FLEET

It was another very slow charter week from Cabo San Lucas, albeit, the fish catch numbers were the best they have been for a couple of months. 100% of the boats that fished caught fish and the billffish count averaged close to 86%. While I could expand on this bit of information and throw in a few action adjectives, the real story reflects a 7 boat week was fished that produced a total of 6 stripers released, 1 dorado, 1 roosterfish, 6 yellowfin tuna and 4 Sierra. Three of the stripers were taken by the "Fish Cabo" for 1 day fished and 2 stripers were taken by the "Gaviota VI" for 1 day fished. Unfortunately, it does not appear that the bite was on or that things really improved; they really haven't. The fishing is slow and difficult and be wary of any glowing fish reports coming from Cabo right now as they may be manipulated to paint a better picture.

Cabo Climate: Mostly sunny and warm with a few partly cloudy days. Temps from 60 nights to 88 daytime highs.

Sea Conditions: Water temps from the Finger Bank to Cabo were pretty stable at 72 inshore and rising to 74 offshore. From Cabo to Los Frailes, the temps increased from 74 to 76. Golden Gate & Jaime Banks on the Pacific were blue water but generally speaking, the waters south of Cabo San Lucas and into the Sea of Cortez were greenish out to about 12 miles and then bluing up.

Best Fishing Area: Most of the billfish are being taken within a mile or two of the beach and within 30 minutes from the Harbor.

Best Lure/Bait: Live bait is a must when available, even if you don't use them. It's another advantage in the daily fishing arsenal that usually makes the difference between a successful and un- successful fishing day.

Live Baitt Supply: Remains plentiful for the caballitos and some mackerel in the mix.
