Don Nagy grabs season lead with 345.2-pound tuna
A lot of long rangers are rounding up their first yellowfin tuna over 200 pounds again this fall, but nothing says tuna like a fish over 300 pounds and Dan Nagy has a firm grip on bragging rights thanks to his 345.2-pound yellowfin caught on the Qualifier 105 trip that returned to Point Loma Sportfishing recently.

One of the main indicators of how heavy a fish is going to weigh is how long it is. If you're doubting the size of this fish, keep in mind that Nagy is 6 foot 8 inches tall and the tip of the tail fin of the super cow is above his head.

This photo is courtesy of Larry Brown, chartermaster on the Baja Fish Gear trip, who noted the fish was caught on an Avet 50 after a 3.5 hour long battle.

Capt. Joe Crisci told Q105 owner John Klein that the battle finally ended when the fish died as result of being tail wrapped and Nagy was able to get the beast up to the surface.

Congratulations to Dan Nagy for a fantastic catch. It's still early in the season, though, and I expect to see more really big fish get weighed.

It should be noted that Crisci initially reported the fish as smaller. Conservative is always the best way to go. It's better to be happily surprised than have an amazing catch somehow turn out to be a disappointment. Congrats again Dan.
