Captain Temo Verboonen reported good catches with sailfish action that, for the most part, kept within 10 miles of the coast and allowing for longer fishing times. While the water temps remained good, the clarity had remained green to only a fair clean-green for some of the areas. The yellowfin tuna, (20 lb. schoolfish averages) popped up and decided to bite in the 25-30 mile range and the fish were eager to bite on both, lures and live bait and fairly easy limit catches. The inshore fishing, even in the green water, is producing good catches of bonito, jack cravelle and a few amberjack and the spinning tackle has been offering the best inshore successes, especially for those anglers that can use the surface poppers or cast the live baits.

I-Z Climate: Just the best with mostly sunny and warm days to 88 degrees and comfortable evenings and nights at 68 degree lows.

Sea Conditions: Inshore waters at 79-80 degrees to about 10 miles offshore, then rising to 81-82 out bound from there. Green water to the 100 fathom curve and then filtering to a cleaner green at about 20-23 miles or so. A band of blue water, about 8 miles wide, runs NW to SE, all along the 1000 fathom curve.

Best Fishing Areas: Two areas, one at about 10 miles for the sailfish and the other at 25-30 miles for the yellowfin tuna.

Best Bait/Lure: Sailfish best on rigged baits. Tuna equally good on live bait, feathers, & surface poppers. Inshore best on live bait and pencil poppers, along with rapala type lures.

Bait Supply: Excellent supply of both, live bait and rigged baits.
