Tim Green has been operating half and three-quarter-day boats out of H&M Landing longer than he'd like to remember. His latest rig is the Premier, a sister to the Freelance at Newport. He spoke about the late summer angling with Bill Roecker on Labor Day.
"We've had pretty good calico bass fishing this summer," he noted, "on quality fish from two up to about four or five pounds. The best bait for them has been the smaller "cracker" sardines, but they've also been biting well on surface iron like Tady 45's or Salas 7X jigs. The mint color had been best.
"It looks now like the sand bass are mostly done for the season. The kelp rockfish catching has been good, too, with lingcod and sheephead winning most of the daily jackpots."
