Families are invited to bring their kids to Fishermans Village in Marina Del Rey to enjoy the 2nd Annual Kids Fishing Day at the Dock. After last year's huge success, Marina Del Rey Anglers is pleased to announce it will be hosting this fun filled event once again on June 24 between 9AM and 12AM at the Marina Del Rey Sportfishing Dock in Fisherman's Village, Marina Del Rey. Everything is FREE. Free parking, free use of fishing rod and reel, free bait and a ton of free laughter and fun.
Last year children were taught the basics of safe fishing, were provided beautiful rods and reels complements of OKUMA, given bait and use of the dock, complements of Marina Del Rey Sportfishing and were assisted by volunteers from MDRA and other organizations. West Marine provided chum buckets which attracted the fish to the dock and the eager and excited kids. Giggles and screams filled the air as fish after fish was hooked, landed, photographed and carefully released. The children caught mackerel, sand bass and calico bass.
Josh Gerson, MDRA's president stated, "Last year's event was a blast. We had help from a lot of local businesses and anglers and it was all about the kids. Hopefully this year will be even better. One of the main goals of this activity is to enlighten parents on what and where our local fishing resources are and how easy it is to take their children fishing. When children ask their parents to take them fishing, they will want to do it."
MDRA encourages kids of all ages to bring their parents out to Marina del Rey for the morning to try their hand at catching a few fish and then enjoy beautiful Fisherman's Village or a stroll along the jetty or beach to round out their day. Marina Del Rey Sportfishing is located at Fisherman's Village, 13759 Fiji Way in Marina Del Rey.
Gerson also says, "Thanks to Marina Del Rey Sportfishing, West Marine and OKUMA for their generosity, and to all of the volunteers without whose support this fun event would not be possible."
Marina del Rey Anglers is a fishing and conservation group and a non profit
