The fishing this past week from Mazatlan was pushing the mark of excellent and while the dorado counts reflected the fish of the week, the boats enjoyed a near 80% catch rate on billfish along with the many dorado that averaged in the 15-20 lb. ranges. The 14 offshore fishing days resulted in 2 blue marlin, (250-275 lb. range) 1 striper, 8 sailfish, (2 released) 1 yellowfin tuna, 1 shark and 67 dorado. The inshore super pangs, fishing just 4 days, reflected 1 sailfish, 2 yellowfin tuna, 1 corvina and 9 dorado. High boat for the week was the "Aries II", skippered by Captain Victor Nunez, landing both blue marlin, along with 2 sailfish, 3 dorado and 1 shark for 2 fishing days.

Mazatlan Climate: Scattered high clouds and plenty of sunshine throughout the area with temps that ranged from 70 nights to 90 daytime highs.

Sea Conditions: Sea temps holding steady and near perfect at 86-87 degrees, light & variable surface breezes in the 5-10 mph ranges and little swell. Good blue water at 18 miles.

Best Fishing Area: About 20 miles out to the southwest of the Marina El Cid and outbound from there. The boats had a steady sighting of fish and sealife in that area.

Best Bait/Lure: The rigged baits were working very well on the sailfish and dorado and the larger artificials in the dorado colors were responsible for the blue marlin.

Bait Supply: Excellent for both, fresh rigging baits and live bait. I always recommend 10-12 live bait per fishing day when it is available. If you need it, you have it and the extra $10-$12.00 is inconsequential compared to the overall cost of the charter and getting to the location.
