Lots of short, 4-hour trips this past week and even with the short trips they got lucky and landed a sailfish in the mixed bag catches of the 44 separate outings. Just goes to show you that in this area, most anything can happen close to the Marina El Cid, as the rapid drop-off in the depth of the water is very close to the entrance of the Marina. A long run from the Marina El Cid would be more than 5-10 minutes. While the boats may fish outbound or north & south of the Marina, you sure don't have to go too far to get started. This past week's catches for the 44 outings reflected a 13 fish variety that included 1 sailfish, 66 bonito, (the fish of the week) 15 Spanish mackerel, 4 giant barracuda, 1 needlefish, 5 blackfin tuna, 2 amberjack, 49 triggerfish, 47 mixed snappers, 14 banana fish, 5 grouper, 3 soap fish and 7 porgy.

PM Climate: Partly cloudy days with intermittent sunshine periods and temps that ranged from 67 nights to 88 daytime highs.

Sea Conditions: Surface breezes light to about 10 mph, flowing mostly from the south to easterly directions. Sea temps holding stable at 80-81 degrees throughout the entire area from Cancun to Cozumel.

Best Bait: The choice of bait for this area continues to be the extraordinary availability of the ballyhoo, freshly caught and supplied to the boats each morning.

Bait Supply: Excellent! An assortment of freshly caught ballyhoo baits for rigging purposes are available each day and the crews can take a selection of sizes.
