The Aries Sportfishing Fleet from the Marina El Cid, Mazatlan, continues to offer a very good chance for landing a trophy billfish and the catch numbers were up for the first report for 2015. The overall offshore fishing results reflected a 60%-plus opportunity to land either a Pacific striped marlin or sailfish as the offshore fleet that reported in for a total of 23 days fished and reflected 8 stripers, (2 released) 6 sailfish, (3 released) 6 dorado and 4 yellowfin tuna. The inshore super pangas reporting in for a total of 7 days fished reflected 3 corvina, 74 red snappers, 20 triggerfish and limits of rock perch. Overall, it was a banner fishing week for the first week of the year.

Mazatlan Climate: A mostly cloudy week with periods of intermittent sunshine, particularly for the weekend. Air temps were ranging from 60 nights to a warm 83 degrees for daytime highs and a 65% humidity level.

Sea Conditions: Surface breezes mostly from the northesterly directions that rangged from almost calm to 11 mph. Sea temps cooling inshore at 71-72 degrees and rising out to the southwest offshore, 12-13 miles, at 75-76 degrees.

Best Fishing Area: Most of the billfish were coming from the area beyond the 15-16 mile mark in the warmer waters southwest of the Marina El Cid.

Best Bait/Lure: A few stripers taken on artificials but the rigged baits were working best for the billfish.

Bait Supply: An excellent bait supply with quality fresh rigging baits provided as part of the charter. Live bait was available at $1.00 per bait.
