THE IXTAPA-ZIHUATANEJO FISHING REPORT FOR THE INDEPENDENT SPORTFISHING FLEET
In our latest fishing report from Captain Temo Verboonen, the area has not recovered from the full moon phase this past week and the fishing in the offshore waters remained on the slow side with only a few of the lucky boats landing a billfish here and there. While there is lots bait, birds and good blue water at the 14 mile mark, the bi game fish have yet to find the area. The inshore areas are still producing big jack crevalles and a few quality roosterfish, along with bonitos and Sierras in the green water. Our area of the ocean remains calm and the weather is picture perfect and all we need is a few more billfish to keep the action going and the angler interests up.
IZ Climate: Air temps at 66 nights to 91 daytime highs and a 63% humidity level. Overall, it's been a sunny and warm week with a few passing clouds and a possibility for a few scattered showers for the weekend. Anyone coming in from the cold and snow areas of the U.S. will love our weather.
Sea Conditions: Excellent conditions. Calm waters with 83 degrees inshore and rising to 86 degrees for the offshore waters. Surface breezes flowing mostly from the westerly directions and ranged from very light to about 1 mph.
Best Fishing Area: Starting at about the 14-15 mile mark in the clean and blue waters with bait and bird action throughout the area.
Best Bait/Lure: The billfish that were caught were primarily taken on the rigged trolling baits. The inshore jacks liked the poppers better than the live baits which is unusual for that species of fish.
Bait Supply: Remains perfect. Good for the fresh rigging baits and plenty of live bait available sat $5.00 per dozen.
