Unfortunately, Mazatlan is in the "doldrums" again this week, but mostly from a lack of anglers and offshore fishing trips. There were only 5 offshore trips this past week that spanned two days and no other trips for the remaining 5 days. There was just insufficient offshore activity allowing the boats to stay on top of the fish with consistency. Overall fish counts for the 5 boat days produced 1 blue marlin, (200 lbs.) 2 sailfish, 8 sharks and 8 dorado. The inshore super pangas, also reporting for 5 days fished, reflected 4 dorado, (all taken on the fly by angler Monte Cooper, Lake Tahoe, CA) 1 shark, 30 pargo and limits of cochitos.

Mazatlan Climate: Partly cloudy days with temps from 75 nights to 94 daytime highs.

Sea Conditions: Port was closed on the 13th due to rough, windy conditions from "Patricia", but reopened on Thursday. Temps were stable at 86-87 degrees, but greenish, off-colored water out to 10-12 miles or so and then bluing up perfectly.

Best Fishing Area: While the 5 boat fishing days over the 2-day span covered substantial water areas, there was no particular area that produced better and no special area was reported.

Best Lure/Bait: Rigged mullet produced the few billfish and dorado.
