A very short fishing week at the Marina El Cid, with a 3-day port
closure resulting from the infamous Hurricane Rick. What a week it's
been for the Pacific side of Mexico, albeit, even with the port
closures, Rick stayed offshore far enough to prevent severe wind
damages to any of the ports and that was the good news for the week.
Today, Thursday, October 22nd, the boats got back to fishing
following the closures and at this time, it's too early to tell if
the weather had a plus or minus effect on the overall fishing for the
area. Prior to the storm the boats reflected a combined total of 13
offshore fishing days that resulted in 4 sailfish and 19 dorado, (all
the dorado were quality fish from 20-45 lbs.). Inshore catches were
a little more respectable for the 4 fishing days reported and
reflected 20 jack cravelle and limits of pargo and cochitos.
Mazatlan Climate: From mild to wild this week but back to good
weather today and looking picture perfect for the remainder of the
week with temps ranging from 70 nights to 90 daytime highs and plenty
of sunshine in the mix.
Sea Conditions: Very light surface breeze today and moderate
residual surface swell with temps holding at 87-88 degrees throughout
the area.
Best Fishing Area: There was no area with a concentration of fish
and the boats that did fish scattered over a wide area and spanned
some 10-20 miles of water.
Best Lure/Bait: Rigged mullet were the hot bite bait for this period
for both, sailfish and dorado.

According to Roberto Marquez, owner of the Fish Cabo Fleet, the overall weather and conditions as of Wednesday, November 21, 2009, were easily fishable, even though the port was still closed. ......
