The reservoir is now fully capped with an ice thickness of 5-10 inches. Use caution: Be careful when getting on to the ice as snow is deep and the ice along the shore is more like slush. There is about 8-12 inches of fresh snow across the area, but the layer of snow against the ice has turned to slush so it is very wet out there. Hopefully, this will refreeze with anticipated colder temperatures. Steinaker Reservoir is at 40% capacity, which is much higher than last year at this time. The inlet area should always be considered dangerous, as water is coming in under the ice sheet. Fishing, so far, has been excellent for rainbow trout and a few brown trout. As the ice thickens you can target bluegill and largemouth bass all across the face of the dam. There are several ice fishing tournaments scheduled in 2023 so be sure and learn more about those events here.
