Steinaker Reservoir is at 42% capacity, which is much higher than last year at this time. The reservoir has 11 to 13 inches of ice (10 inches of good clear ice). Use caution: Be careful when getting onto the ice as snow is deep. There is some slush but most of it has been refrozen. There is about 5 inches of fresh snow across the area, but the edges are looking better. The inlet area should always be considered dangerous, as water is coming in under the ice sheet. Fishing, so far, has been fair to good for rainbow trout and a few brown trout. You can target bluegill and largemouth bass all across the face of the dam. There are several ice fishing tournaments scheduled in 2023 so be sure and learn more about those events here.
