The results of yesterdays trip , the gremlins continue to plague me on the 299. May need to get Capt. George Uhl to come down and perform one of his burning of sage rituals to vanquish them, LOL

We started off jigging Jays Blade baits right out front in 15 FOW and stayed in there for about 15 minutes only witnessing one fish being caught. I knew they were in there as I could see them on the grough just sitting above the bottom. Muddy water don't usually bother me for jigging as we had zero visability but they were just not having it in there yesterday morning. Made a move to deeper water out to 21 FOW where the water cleaned up substantially and the fish were just stacked. We spent around 3 hours drifting making 6 drifts jigging up 5 or 6 nice walleyes on blades and purple hair jigs along with 2 shorts a couple sheephead and a handful of white bass.

The guys made the tuff decision to switch over to the trolling bite as there was a good one going on 4 miles North West of where we where. We set up in 30FOW where the water was very clean, sent the bandits back 60 to 95 back unassisted on little boards and tried to hold a 1.6 to 1.8 mph speed. This is where my troubles started that late morning . Now I had been dealing with this issue on the 299 trolling in the month of April trying to get her slowed down enough for these lathurgic toothy critters so I was half expecting it and somewhat prepared. To get the 299 slowed down I need 4 bags deployed - 2 on the sides and 2 straight out the stern. This causes the 299 to what I call crab walk, it tracks at a 35 degree angle to the waves whether we are going with or aginst them making it somewhat difficult to controll while in traffic. Now this is where having a mate on board is nice as Lyle ditched yesterday to go turkey hunting. When the boat crab walks waves are also pushing and forcing the bow around while the auto pilot is trying everying in its power to keep us on corse, every now and then loosing control as it don't have a lot of time to react at the speeds we are running and the boat will make a hard 90 degree turn out of nowhere. We had 2 fish coming to the back of the boat I was attending to when this very thing happened. A rouge wave pushed the bow hard and forced a HARD 90 degree turn and I could not get the helm fast enough before tangleing every single remaining line on the port side . It was a big enough mess that everything had to be cut, but hey we got the 2 fish in the boat. This just made fishing harder as now I had absolutely no idea where my baits were running on the port side anymore with the loss of line as it was just a gussing game at that point.

We managed to grind out 15 of there 24 before calling it with 95 to 100 back being our best leads. The fish we did pull were all really nice fish averaging 4 pounds each which was outstanding giving our circumstances yesterday.

Anybody have a remedy to get rid of gremlins? I am getting tired of chasing them, I am listening

Bring on the summer bite I am over this spring wind, bite and evetything else it comes with. Is it time to throw worms? I think it is, water temps were 52 degrees yesterday so I am seriously considering giving it a go on our next trip out at the very least start carrying them on the boat.
