Seems like we're reverting back to the slowness of charters that we
experienced last year? While the billfish catches are still low for
this time of year, (about 42% of the boats are landing billfish)
there is still a fair bite for dorado and the yellowfin tuna showed
up to provide some fill-in for the anglers this week. The high boat
for the week was the "TUNA TIME", skippered by Captain Christian
Lopez, reflecting 3 stripers, 20 dorado and 42 yellowfin tuna for 4
fishing days. The overall combined fish counts for 26 days fished
reflected 11 stripers released, 19 Sierra, 79 yellowfin tuna and 94
dorado.
Cabo Climate: Mostly sunny with an occasional stray cloud in the
mix, temps from 56 nights to 79 daytime highs.
Sea Conditions: From the Finger Bank down across the Golden Gate &
Jaime Banks, temps holding at 76 degrees. Cabo to Gordo Banks at
74. South of Cabo Falso @ 10 miles temps rise to 78-79.
Best Lure/Bait: Live bait a must for the billfish and helpful for
the dorado, too. Tuna taken on feathers and cedar plugs with the
fish running with the porpoise.
Best Fishing Area: Billfish best at Cabo Falso to Cristobal and at
the Jaime Bank. Tuna from the Jaime Bank and dorado were scattered
throughout the triangle from Cabo Falso to Cristobal to Jaime Bank
and back.
Live Bait Supply: mostly caballitos and no live bait problem for the
week.
