THE ARIES SPORTFISHING FLEET

Unfortunately, it was another very slow and difficult offshore fishing week from Mazatlan and I sure wish we could "put our finger" on the cause and correct it. Is it the "El Nino", too many long- liners, or is it just one of those unexplainable periods of time when the fish just aren't on location and when they are, they just don't want to bite at all. There are certainly few things that are more frustrating to a crew that cares than to fish very hard all day long and not even encounter a single strike and knowing from the time you leave the dock that it's going to be another one of "those days", when the customer often believes you are purposely not making an effort.

Only 11 offshore boats fished this week and the catch effort reflected 1 striped marlin and 6 dorado for the effort that consisted of at least 88 hours fished. While I know it will change for the better, I just don't know how soon and wish it would hurry. The inshore fishing is providing the better action, but it even tapered down this past week and reflected 86 pargo, 3 dorado and 139 cochitos for 7 fishing days.

Mazatlan Climate: Mostly cloudy with cool evenings and early mornings. Temps from 54 nights to 84 daytime highs.
Sea Conditions: Light tropical breezes from the west and little swell. Temps were stable at 77 and the clarity was very good. Where's the fish?
Best bait/lure: The rigged baits caught the single marlin and dorado.
Best fishing area: None reported
