THE GAVIOTA SPORTFISHING FLEET AND FISH CABO FLEET

The billfish opportunities were much improved this week and while still not up to par, it was unquestionably a real tick upward for the week that reflected a notch above 50% of the boats releasing a striper. High boat for the week was the "Gaviota II", reflecting 5 stripers released for 4 days fished. The "Gaviota IV" reflected a 4 striper single day at the 95 fathom spot. Billfish were scattered about from the Jaime Bank and around the corner to Palmilla and out o the 95 fathom spot. Overall, the fleet reported in for 26 combined fishing days that reflected 14 stripers released, 48 dorado, 49 yellowfin tuna and 13 Sierra. It appears that the billfish are starting their annual move around the corner and into the Sea of Cortez.

Cabo Climate: Mostly cloudy days through the week with sunny days slated for the next few days. The temps are still cool nights but warmer days and ranged from 56 nights to 80 daytime highs.
Sea Conditions: Light northwest breezes to about 10 knots, but fishable with surface chop. Temps were 70 from the Golden Gate Bank to Cristobal and rising to 72.5-73 from Cabo to Gorda Banks.
Best Fsihing Area: Billfish were scattered about from the Jaime to Palmilla and out to the 95 Fathom Spot. Yellowffin were taken mostly in the Golden Gate Bank area. Dorado in all locations but better in the warmer waters.
Best Lure/Bait: Live bait was by far the best for the billfish. Yellowfin were biting the feathers and cedarplugs.
Live Bait Supply: Good supply and a mix of mackerel and caballitos.
