One could almost feel the excitement in Captain Temo Verboonen's
voice as he relayed the fish report for the week. Seems like he
started with the Dale Wilkie party from Pennsylvania, with excellent
roosterfish catches that went to 75 lbs. and lots of jack cravelle
that averaged about 25 lbs. He said it was really fun fishing,
especially for the flyfishing anglers, as they would watch the
hookless teaser/popper attract the roosterfish and jack cravelle
close enough to present the streamers. It was fast and fun action
that is still going on and close to Zihuatanejo Bay. Adding to the
inshore excitement was a good showing of wahoo this past week that
were anxious to bite at the fast trolled lures. The offshore waters
are still producing a few blue marlin and excellent catches of
sailfish just a few miles from the Bay and then, at about 20 miles,
the yellowfin tuna are chewing at the artificials and live baits with
an average weight of near 80 lbs.
I/Z Climate: Partly cloudy days with temps from 70 nights to 90 daytime highs and scattered thunderstorms but little breeze.
Sea Conditions: Excellent throughout the area from close to shore to 50 miles offshore with temps from 85 close in and rising to 87-88 at the 1,000 fathom curve, with deep, clear blue waters right up to the entrance to the Bay.
Best Fishing Area: The roosterfish and jack cravelle are close to Zihuatanejo Bay, both north & south of the Bay. Billfish from about 8 miles out and the yellowfin tuna at about 20 miles.
Best Bait/Lure: Roosters and jack cravelle on live bait, poppers and streamers, wahoo on fast trolled lures, sailfish on rigged baits and tuna on feathers and live bait.
Bait supply: Excellent with good availability for both, live and rigged baits.
