Captain Temo Verboonen, reporting for the Independent sportfishing fleet, reported the first half of the week was slow fishing and slow on anglers, too. However, the back half of the week saw the water turning blue close to the coast and big areas of bonito moved in, chasing the sardinas. Good numbers of jack cravelle in the same area. Close to the rocks produced some bigeye jacks, too, but that bite was slow. The fish seemed lethargic and full. Same for the roosterfish which ignored the lures and preferred the live bait. A few wahoo around on the h igh spots. Blue marlin and stripers still biting at about 20 miles and some good sized tuna taken out there, too. Chances for sailfish are good, too, in the offshore waters. Only 1 or 2 boats fishing each day.

IZ Climate: Mostly cloudy days with temps from 72 nights to 91 daytime highs, humidity fairly high and good chance for PM & night rains.

Sea Conditions: Greenish tin during the first part of the week and bluing up toward the end. Sea temps ranged from 86-87 throughout the area. Light surface breezes from the WSW at 5-10 knots.

Best Fishing Area: The offshore fish are still scattered about but seems like there are just more fish in the area right now.

Best Lure/Bait: Rigged baits best for the sailfish and rigged or live bonito best for the blue marlin.

Bait Supply: Remains good for rigged baits and live bait. Bonito easily caught on the way out.
