Unlike the 2009 fishing season from Cabo San Lucas, when the fishing
was terribly slow and difficult, the 2010 season is showing terrific
signs of being a superb fishing season. Even better, we are already
hearing about an abundance of feed biomass out in front of and below
Magdalena Bay, lending credibility to the prediction of a much better
fishing season for Cabo San Lucas. From late October and early
November, the bait masses will move on down to the Finger Bank and
Golden Gate, allowing for the annual build-up of the billfish
concentrations that are normal for November and December and
typically stretch from the Golden Gate Bank to Cabo Falso. Yellowfin
tuna, dorado and wahoo will filter into the area in significant
numbers, (we are already seeing very good numbers of dorado and many
bigger tuna than normal) and the anglers will enjoy the benefits of
quality fishing adventures.
About 75% of the boats produced billfish this past week that included
a smaller blue marlin and a single sailfish. The dorado bite was
higher than the week before and limit fishing was easy for most of
the boats. The overall combined reports ffor the Gaviota
sportfishing fleet and Fish Cabo Fleet reflecting 38 days fished
reflected 1 blue marlin, (225 lbs. estimated) 1 sailfish released and
24 stripers, (23 released) along with 8 yellowfin tuna, 6 wahoo and
161 dorado (12-15 lb. average with a few to near 40 lbs.). Higgh
boat for the week was again the "Tuna Time", skippered by Roberto
Padilla, reflecting 5 stripers released, 17 dorado, 1 wahoo and 5
yellowfin tuna for 4 days fished.
Cabo Climate: Partly cloudy days with good periods of sunshine. Temps from 70 nights to 93 daytime highs and 5-10 knots of surface breezes.
Sea Conditions: Excellent. Blue water in all directions with temps on the Pacific side from 82-85. A north/south temp break from Golden Gate Beach and beyond out to the south, climbing to 86-88 degrees and stretching around to Las Frailes.
Best Fishing Area: All of the Pacific again this week, stretching from Cabo Falso to the Golden Gate and back to the Jaime Bank.
Best Bait/Lure: Good catches on the artificials again this week with a variety of colors doing well. Good bites on the drop-backs with live bait, especially with the dorado.
Bait Supply: Getting better by the week but still some mixed bait supply.

According to Captain Temo Verboonen, the rains have tapered off and it is appearing to be the tail end of the rainy season for their area. He reports that the inshore fishing is a good option right now because the waters are clearing and the jacks and bonito have moved in and the roosterfish are providing some good action, too. There is still not much activity to report in the offshore waters and...... Read More
