Cooler weather put a damper on the fishing at Ixtapa-Zihuatanejo

Captain Temo Verboonen reported some windy days and some green, cooler water rolled through during the early week and then left the area, returning the fish bite at about 8 miles from the entrance to the Bay. Once the cooler, off colored water moved out, the marlin, sailfish and dorado popped back up but this time, much closer to the entrance of the Bay. We had lots of sea life activity in the fish bite zone with dolphin, birds, bait and of course, good fishing, too. The inshore action has picked back up considerably with schools of big jacks biting at Morros de Potosi and Guamilule, next to Barra de Potosi. The Sierras and the Chulas striking well at the plugs and poppers.

IZ Climate: Partly cloudy but warm days and excellent evenings with temps that ranged from 72 nights to 89 daytime highs.

Sea Conditions: Mostly flat calm days in the mornings with the windy conditions starting around 11:00 A.M., creating some wind chop. Temps are in the 77-78 degree ranges inshore and rising to 80-81 just outside the 100 fathom curve and then warming to 84 degrees outside the 1,000 fathom curve.

Best Fishing Area: Currently at the 8-9 mile mark, directly in front of the Zihuatanejo Bay Entrance.

Best Lure/Bait: Rigged baits working well for the offshore fishing and plugs and poppers doing very well for the inshore fishing.

Bait Supply: Continues to be plentiful for all of the sportfishing fleet on a daily basis for both, live bait and trolling baits.
