Captain Temo Verboonen reported an excellent fishing week from Zihuatanejo this past week with good strikes and catches for the blue marlin and black marlin, (fish were in the 200-300 lb. ranges) at the 15 mile mark, straight out form the entrance to Zihuatanejo Bay. There was a pretty good mix of sailfish in this same area but the offshore fishing focused on the billfish and the skippers are anxiously awaiting the return of the dorado to the area. Inshore fishing continues to improve with very good roosterfish catches, (lots of fish in the 20-25 lb. ranges and an occasional bigger fish to 45 lbs. or so) lots of big eye jacks and jack crevalle and bonitos with some occasional good catches on the grouper at the rocks. Lots of sea life, including bait balls and birds are scattered about the area and attracting the bigger fish.
IZ Climate: Hurricane Bud had little effect on this area and no rain was reported. Temps continue to be in the 70 nights to 91 daytime high mode, with light & variable surface breezes.
Sea Conditions: Mostly calm waters that have blued up perfectly and temps that range from 84 inshore to 85 offshore.
Best Fishing Area: Good fishing for the billfish at the 15 mile mark.
Best Bait/Lure: Good results on the rigged baits but also good results on slow-trolled live baits and even good catches on the artificials.
Bait Supply: Good supply for live bait and fresh caught baits for rigging.
