The yellowfin tuna counts soared this past week from Cabo San Lucas and allowed for an average of 5 tuna per boat per fishing day. A good number of the sportfishers found full fish limits on several fishing days and the bite continues. The big schools of tuna are on the Pacific side and in the Golden Gate Bank area, but the seiners are rapidly lining up on the schools of fish and they may all wind up as cans of tuna. Most of the fish were in the 15-25 lb. ranges with a few larger fish in the 45-50 lb. class. Scattered dorado throughout the area allowed for an occasional fish for dinner. Most of these fish were in the 12-20 lb. ranges. The striped marlin action was fairly consistent with fish being caught over a wide area and the better fishing on the Pacific side, spanning from the Herradura area to the Golden Gate Bank. The overall fish reports reflected 21 stripers,(20 releases) 2 sailfish released, 22 dorado and 145 yellowfin tuna, the fish of the week.

Cabo Climate: Mostly clear and warm days with a few scattered clouds and temps that ranged from 77 nights to 98 daytime highs.

Sea Conditions: Excellent water conditions on both sides of the peninsula. Pacific side holding at 81-85 degrees and the Sea of Cortez side stable at 86-87 degrees. Very blue water from Jaime Bank and around, into the Sea of Cortez.

Best Fishing Area: The Herradura area to the south of Cabo and around to the Golden Gate Bank on the Pacific side.

Best Bait/Lure: The artificials were working very well, especially the cedar plugs and feathers for the tuna and dorado, and live bait was best for the billfish.

Live Bait Supply: A pretty good live bait supply for the week even though it was a coming into the full moon phase.
