It is not at all a usual catch to have sailfish show up in the reports at this time of year, but the conditions were plenty good enough for the anglers that opted to fish the longer days and make the sailfish effort. The overall catches for this past week had the giant Atlantic barracuda as the fish of the week and closely followed by the bonito. However, the sailfish sure added some spice to the catching and was an unexpected result for the boats. The overall fish counts for a total of 15 days fished reflected a mixed bag catch that included 3 sailfish, 27 giant Atlantic barracuda, 26 bonito, 2 King mackerel, 2 amberjack, 2 rainbow runners, 3 dorado, 3 strawberry fish, 7 triggerfish, 16 banana fish, 1 soap fish and 4 mutton snapper.
PM Climate: Partly cloudy days with temps that reflected 69 at nights to 89 daytime highs.
Sea Conditions: Over all, it turned out to be a pretty good week that offered mostly light & variable surface breezes and a couple of days of afternoon surface wind chop. Sea temps remained good and held at 83-84 degrees throughout the area.
Best Bait: Continued to be the always available ballyhoo that worked well for the sailfish when trolled on the surface and without skirting. The ballyhoo is most prolific in this area of the Caribbean and comes in assorted sizes on a daily basis.
