According to Captain Temo Verboonen, our reporter for Zihuatanejo, the past week provided terrific fishing and has named it, "The Marlin Week". The skippers reported numerous billfish strikes, particularly on the marlin, along with a very good bite on sailfish and dorado. The dorado are all big fish, 25-40 pounders and even a few bigger ones in the mix. The water conditions for the offshore fishing is near perfect and is providing excellent temperatures and clarity, along with nearly flat calm surface conditions. All-in-all, it's been a banner fishing week for the fleet and really turned the corner after the full moon phase. The yellowfin tuna are still around but farther off shore and for the most part, getting out of range at 60 miles or so. The inshore fishing is at a virtual stand-still. For now, there are no indications of schools of fish in the inshore areas and the water temps are cooler. Very green water to the north & south of the Bay.
IZ Climate: Mostly sunny and near perfect fishing days with pleasant evenings and mornings. Temps ranging from 72 nights to 91 daytime highs.
Sea Conditions: Excellent offshore fishing conditions with temps holding stable at 84-85 degrees, along with excellent clarity and calm seas.
Best Bait/Lures: A very good bite on the fresh rigged trolling baits but also good on the aritificials, too, especially for the bigger marlin.
Best Fishing Area: The big bite area has been holding well at the 15-mile mark, straight out from the Bay.
Bait Supply: Remains excellent for fresh caught baits for rigging. Live bait has been readily available on a daily basis.
