Captain Temo Verboonen reports the fishing remains slow for his area at Zihuatanejo with cooler water temps and very off-colored water conditions throughout the area that extends many miles offshore. We have bee n running 30-40 miles offshore for very few strikes and very little action. We did have a day of good yellowfin tuna fishing at the 25-mile mark but it was gone the next day. We saw some sailfish in the 10 mile area on the return from fishing the 30-40 mile areas which may mean the off colored water is closer to the surface and clean below. Between the off-colored and cooler water & the full moon phase, the fishing has been way off kilter for the past couple of weeks and we are anxiously awaiting the change. The inshore fishing is very iffy and while we are seeing some schools of fish, they are completely disinterested in the artificials, probably due to the very cool inshore waters and the lack of clarity. We are coming up on the annual Sailfish Tournament that usually marks the seasonal change for fishing and will have to wait & see how that goes. We had a report from Captain Chiro Barrigan, owner/skipper off the Bloody Hook, reflecting they had a lucky fishing day at about 28 miles, landing an approximate 300 lb. blue marlin, releasing a sailfish and missing two more for the day. The day before resulted in a few bonito and the day after was nothing. Just couldn't find the blue water and fished to 35 miles offshore.

IZ Climate: Partly cloudy days with intermittent sunshine periods and temps that ranged from 66 nights to 89 daytime highs.

Sea Conditions: Inshore temps at 74-75 degrees, very cold for this area, rising to 78-79 at the 100 fathom curve and beyond for the next 15 miles or so and rising to 82 just inside the 1000 fathom curve and all in off-colored green water. The warmer and cleaner water is at the 40 mile mark and beyond and not reachable on an 8-hour fishing day. Surface breezes ranging from 5-15 mph from the westerly directions.

Best Fishing Area: There is no sustained concentration of fish inside of 40 miles offshore.

Best Bait/Lure: It almost makes no difference right now with the lack of fish biting but the few sailfish caught were best on the rigged baits and the tuna were best on the feathers, cedar plugs, all in varied colors.

Bait Supply: Continues to be plentiful for fresh caught rigging baits and the live bait supply is very good.
