Numerous billfish appeared from the front of Chileno Bay, about 4 miles out and on out to the 1150 fathom spot. While many of those billfish being seen are not cooperating, there has been sufficient action to keep everyone on their toes and focused on the artificials. The Fish Cabo was high boat for stripers with 5 fish for 3 days fished and followed by the Gaviota VII with 5 stripers for 4 days fished. Tuna Time had 4 stripers for 2 days fished. According tto Captain Roberto Marquez, the numbers of billfish being landed do not reflect the huge amount of fish being seen. We are seeing groups of 10-15 stripers at a time but for the most part, they don't want to bite and probably like the dorado we caught, full of squid. Still, it has been a good fishing week for the anglers and the overall fish counts reflected a total of 29 days fished that produced 31 stripers, (29 released) 1 jack crevalle, 10 yellowtail, 3 roosterfish, 59 skipjack and 4 yellowfin tuna.
Cabo Climate: Mostly sunny and warm days and increasing temperatures, ranging from 65 nights to 92 daytime highs.
Sea Conditions: Pacific side has cooler waters that run parallel to the shore line and out to 30-40 miles or so and ranging from 63-67 degrees. The big temp change is right at the entrance to Cabo Bay area, around the corner and into the Sea of Cortez, ranging from 73-76 degrees with some warmer waters in the 77-78 degree ranges above and outside the Gorda Banks. Surface breezes flowing from the SSW at 10-15 mph.
Best Fishing Area: The billfish are spread from 3-4 miles off the beach at Chileno Bay and continue on out to the 1150 fathom spot. There are big schools of billfish throughout the area but for the most part, the fish are being fussy and not overly eager to bite the bait or the lures. Fish Cabo reported 3 strikes on their lures and a good bite on the live bait, especially on the drop back for billfish chasing the lures.
Best Bait/Lure: A few fish are being taken on the artificials but the better bite continues to be on the live bait and the drop back with a live bait to fish chasing the lures has been working best.
Live Bait Supply: Continues to be readily available at the rate of $3.00 each.
