Pheasant stocking locations will be limited in southeast Wyoming again this year during the general hunting season due to lack of cover in Platte and Laramie counties. However, there should be enough birds to release starting Nov. 2 through the second week of December in other designated locations.
The only walk-in areas in southeast Wyoming to be stocked with pheasants this fall are 29 and 63 in Goshen County. No pheasants will be stocked in Laramie or Platte counties as cover is not adequate to support pheasants. Goshen County walk-in area 19 also lacks sufficient cover and will not be stocked.
"We regret that the walk-in areas in Laramie and Platte counties do not have sufficient cover to provide a decent hunting opportunity," said Steve Schafer, superintendent of the Game and Fish's Downar Bird Farm near Yoder.
Pheasants will be stocked at least twice a week at the Springer/Bump Sullivan Wildlife Habitat Management Area (Hunt Area 8) near Yoder during the general season, which was extended this year to Nov. 2 - 21. Table Mountain WHMA will also be stocked twice a week through November. The special pheasant hunts at the Springer WHMA and Glendo State Park will receive the same number of birds as past years.
Hunters, regardless of age, are reminded to purchase the Pheasant Special Management Permit to hunt pheasants on walk-in and habitat areas. Hunters are reminded to please read the 2013 pheasant hunting regulations before going afield.
Hunters are cautioned if they follow the pheasant stocking truck, the driver will likely return to the bird farm and not release the birds until a later date.
