The offshore striper bite has slowed a bit and for no apparent reason as overall conditions are near perfect. The crew are seeing plenty of billfish but they are being very finicky biters and unwilling to cooperate. This past week's totals reflected 16 offshore fishing days that resulted in a total of 7 stripers caught, (1 released) and 2 dorado for the offshore fishing. The inshore super pangas reflected 7 days fishing that resulted in 1 dorado, 1 grouper, 10 rock perch and 9 red snappers, (10-15 lb. fish). While still a bit early, the dorado season is approaching and likely to be here early given the high water temps throughout the area.
Mazatlan Climate: Partly cloudy but warm days and pleasant evenings with intermittent sunshine throughout the day hours. Temps ranged from 62 nights to 88 daytime highs.
Sea Conditions: Terrific water temps that ranged from 77-78 inshore and rising to 80 at about 10 miles offshore, increasing to 81-82 degrees at about 18 miles. Surface breezes ranging from flat calm to about 13 mph, flowing mostly from the westerly directions.
Best Fishing Area: None reported. The boats saw billfish all over in the outer areas but the fish were non-cooperating and very stubborn biters.
Best Bait/Lure: Rigged baits were best for the stripers and dorado.
Bait Supply: Remains plentiful for both, live bait and fresh baits for rigging.
