The surface is covered with ice, but it's thin at the edges because the water level is rising. Anglers report fair to good fishing through eight to 10 inches of ice, once they cross over to the main ice cap. Try using small jigs or jigging spoons tipped with bait like worms, mealworms or cut bait. Anglers have also been doing well with artificial baits that are brightly colors and have strong scents. The Steinaker Reservoir derby has not been cancelled. It will be held this Saturday, Jan. 31.
