THE CABO SAN LUCAS FISHING REPORT FOR THE GAVIOTA SPORTFISHING FLEET AND FISH CABO FLEET
It was another very slow fishing week from Cabo San Lucas and according to Carlos Pena, the fleet manager for the Gaviota sportfishers, there were no Gaviota Fleet boats that fished this past week and the rumor is, there was a pending sale of the entire operation to another local Cabo San Lucas operator and that should work enormously well for the anglers and the overall Cabo San Lucas Sportfishing Industry. Until I have all of the details of just how the sale may affect Cortez Yacht Charters, I am going to withhold any comments, but can certainly share that we have been privileged to represent the Gaviota Sportfishing Fleet for the past 20-plus years or so and certainly look forward to a continuation. As of now, I believe everything will continue to run very smoothly and bookings will continue to be honored, the same as always. The Fish Cabo boats reported in for a total of 3 days fished and a catch and release of 4 stripers, all within a few miles of the Cabo Harbor, and that was encouraging from the fishing end of things.
Cabo Climate: Air temps ranged from 64 nights to 87 daytime highs and a 50% average humidity rate. Mostly bright, sunny days with a couple passing clouds on Thursday but otherwise, hats, light, long sleeve shirts & lots of sun lotion required.
Sea Conditions: Varied temperatures throughout the area ranging from 73-78 degrees. Golden Gate Bank to Jaime Bank & extending out across the 1000 fathom curve, all at 73-74. Temp break at Chileno, rising to 75-76 degrees all the way to Los Frailes and into the Sea of Cortez. Warmest water temps asre southwest of Cabo Falso, just beyond the 1000 fathom curve, rising to 77-78 degrees.Surface breezes ranged from calm to about 13 mph, all from the westerly directions;.
Best Fishing Area: The billfish were all taken between Los Arcos and Cabo Falso and within a few miles of the shoreline.
Best Bait/Lure: The billfish were taken on both, live bait and rigged ballyhoo baits.
Live Bait Supply: The live bait supply remains in excellent shape and there is a very good supply of caballitos at the $3.00 per bait rate.
