According to one of our dockside fishing reporters, Carlos Pena-Mireles, reporting for the Gaviota Sportfishing Fleet, the Rodney Jones party of two, Dallas, TX, landed 3 stripers and 1 mako shark, fishing aboard the "Gaviota 8", in the area of the 1150 Fathom Spot. Our charter group from Tulsa, OK, the Jeff Turner party, fishing aboard the "Tuna Time", released 4 stripers and 1 shark for a single fishing day. According to Captain Roberto Marquez, the billfish were up and willing to bite this past week, especially in the area around the 1150 Fathom Spot, about 15 miles to the east of the Cabo Harbor. According to Captain Roberto Marquez, the fish are biting very well on slow trolled rigged baits and the action has been very good for the anglers. Roberto adds, there are lots of mako and thresher sharks in the area, apparently feeding on the smaller squid availability. The "Tuna Time" was high billfish boat for the week reflecting 9 stripers released, 3 dorado & 1 shark for 3 days fished. The "Gaviota VII" reflected 5 stripers, 3 mako sharks and 3 skipjack for 3 days fished. The overall fish counts for a combined total of 32 days fished reflected 39 stripers, ((32 released) 13 dorado, 6 mako sharks, 2 wahoo, 3 yellowfin tuna, 10 skipjack tuna and 1 jack crevalle. The bite is definitely picking up throughout the entire Cabo San Lucas region and offering anglers numerous opportunities to land a billfish.
