THE GAVIOTA SPORTFISHING FLEET AND FISH CABO FLEET

Finally, it appears that the Pacific striped marlin have arrived on location and the counts for some of the boats have been exceptional. "Gaviota III" had a 10 marlin release day, the "Gaviota IV" reflected 18 stripers released for 3 fishing days and the "Tuna Time reflected 12 stripers released for two fishing days. Better yet, the fish are close enough, with most boats fishing the Cabo Falso (Light House) drop-off. However, good reports are coming in from the Jaime Bank and the Golden Gate Bank, too, and those areas are producing very well without the heavy boat traffic. Still, with all of the action, there were the "haves and the have nots", but for those that had the fish, the bite was as good as it gets and we can only hope this is just the beginning. Overall combined fish counts for 28 days reflected 63 stripers, (58 released) 1 wahoo, 5 yellowfin tuna, 25 sierra and 135 dorado, with nearly all of the fish coming from the Pacific side of Cabo.

Cabo Climate: A sun-cloud mix condition with air temps that ranged from 60 nights to 80 daytime highs. Light breezes.

Sea Conditions: Continue to be very good, temps at the Golden Gate at 77 down to the Cristobal Ridge and rising to 79 all the way around to the Gorda Banks. Mostly calm conditions persist.

Best Fishing area: The Cabo Falso drop-off was very good, but so was the Golden Gate and Jaime Bank.

Best Bait/Lure: While billfish were snapping at the lures, the live mackerel were the live bait of choice and by far the best catch producers.

Live bait supply: Good for caballitos and mackerel. Mackerel are now replenishable at the Cabo Falso drop-off and the Golden Gate Bank.
