THE GAVIOTA SPORTFISHING FLEET AND FISH CABO FLEET

The billfish catching is still off the mark for Cabo San Lucas for this time of year and high boat for the week was the "Tuna Time", skippered by Captain Christian Lopez, releasing 4 stripers for two fishing days. On one of the days, he also landed a single dorado and was close enough to the shoreline to capture a single Sierra, too. Seemed like the billfish that were caught this week, at least for t he most part, were within a couple miles of the beach or around the 95 fathom spot. Overall combined fish counts for a total of 27 days fished reflected 12 stripers released, 44 dorado, 2 yellowfin tuna, 7 skipjack tuna, 1 yellowtail, 2 roosterfish and 119 Sierra.

Cabo Climate: Following the early week clouds and a bit of rain, the skies cleared and became sunny, boasting warmer days. Temps from 57 nights to 81 daytime highs.

Sea Conditions: Overall, it was pretty good on both sides of the peninsula with water temps that ranged from 75-76 from just outside of Todos Santos on the Pacific to the Gorda Banks on the Sea of Cortez side. About a 10 square mile of 78-79 degree water hovered in the area of the 95 fathom spot and on both sides of the 1,000 fathom curve.

Best Fishing Area: None was reported but it did appear that the area from Cabeza de Ballena, (Gray Rock) to Palmilla Ridge held the best bet for stripers, all within a couple miles of shore.

Best Lure/Bait: Live bait was best for the billfish and the dorado, too and was most effective on the drop-back.

Live Bait Supply: Good supply of caballitos for bait
