THE GAVIOTA SPORTFISHING FLEET AND FISH CABO FLEET

In more than 20 years of Mexican fish reports, the past week in Cabo San Lucas was the slowest I have ever reported, not just from the fishing/catching perspective, but from the number of boats that fished. However, like all anglers, I continue to have an optimistic mindset and recognize that it is March, typically the very slowest fishing month of the year. Water temperatures oscillate in March, the currents streak and clarity is often tainted with a green tinge to it. On the plus side is this type of water tends to attract the swordfish and as the temps cool and the clarity greens up, look for the swordfish to start popping up at any time. This past week's fish report for a combined total of 8 fishing days reflected 1 striper released, 4 dorado, 2 yellowfin tuna, 8 sierra and 14 Humbolt Squid.

Cabo Climate: Mostly sunny days with a few passing clouds here & there, with temps from 63 nights to 86 daytime highs.

Sea Conditions: Water temps on the Pacific side and all the way round to Los Frailes is 69-72, with the cooler water on the Pacific. A noticeable temperature break, running northeast to southwest lies about 12-15 miles offshore from Cabo and along the 1000 fathom curve, rising to 75 degrees.

Best Fishing Area: None reported
Best Lure/Bait: None reported
Live Bait Supply: Excellent with a mix of caballito and mackerel.
