According to Captain Temo Verboonen, "Finally, there were more boats
fishing this past week from Zihuatanejo and it looks like the
beginning of the new season is beginning to develop. Excellent
dorado fishing with the fish in the 20-30 lb. ranges and they were
biting the lures better than the baits. There were big tides this
past week during the full moon phase that made fishing close to the
beach dangerous to impossible. Sardines and bonito are everywhere
and when the tides recede the bite should be very good for the jacks
and roosterfish. The main concentration of billfish was pretty much
from the 128 miles mark and the farther offshore, the better the bite
and the best fishing was in the 30 to 40 mile zone, outside the 1,000
fathom cure".
IZ Climate: Partly cloudy days with good intervals of bright sunshine and temps from 73 nights to 93 daytime highs.
Sea Conditions: Other than the high tides that affected the close to the beach fishing, the seas were mostly flat with 5-10 knots of surface breezes and temps from 81 inshore to 83 offshore.
Best Lure/Bait: Temo reported better action for the dorado on the lures but the billfish were better on the rigged baits.
Best fishing area: The dorado bite was best close in, from 1-3 miles or so and the beginning of the billfish bite was about 18 miles and got better farther offshore.
Bait Supply: Still a good supply even through the full moon phase.
