The full moon had a more serious effect on the Mazatlan region and slowed the offshore bite for the anglers this past week, both on the inshore and offshore areas. While overall area conditions remained very good, such as water temps, clarity, feed biomass, etc. , the full moon seemed to diminish the eagerness of the billfish bite and for the first time, even slowed the inshore action. The overall combined offshore fish counts for 26 days fished reflected 2 blue marlin, (under 300 lbs.) 2 striped marlin and 7 sailfish, along with 3 dorado. The inshore fishing for 6 days reflected 1 black snook, (robalo) 1 palometa, 16 corvina, 7 pargo, 2 cabrilla, 12 roncachos, 1 sierra and 10 mojarres.
Mazatlan Climate: Mostly sunny, warm and clear days with cool nights and temps that ranged from 54 nights to 85 daytime highs.
Sea Conditions: Cool water inshore at about 70 degrees and rising to 75 at the 5-7 miles mark, rising to 77-79 at 11-12 miles and outbound from there. Water was green & murky to about 10 miles, then cleaning to blue at 18-20 miles.
Best Fishing Area: None specified. The offshore fish were scattered over a wide area.
Best Lure/Bait: Rigged baits were best for he offshore waters.
Bait Supply: No problems with the bait supply.

Another great fishing week from Cabo San Lucas, even with the full moon conditions. While the billfish counts slowed up a little, it was still excellent action for most of the boats. The "highliner" for the week was the "Tuna Time", skippered by Captain Roberto Padilla, releasing 12 stripers for two fishing days and taking one of the only two wahoo for the week. This count was followed closely by the "Gaviota VII", skippered by Captain Alberto...... Read More
