According to Captain Temo Verboonen, our reporter and area representative for Ixtapa-Zihuatanejo sportfishing, the full moon exacted it's toll on the fishing and diminished the offshore bite for billfish and the few bigger dorado that had started to make their presence shown. There were still good signs of big game fish throughout the area but they were not cooperating with the anglers very well and resulted in a short-bite syndrome. Seems like the fish were night feeding in the light of the moon and shying from the baits and lures during the daylight hours. Temo reported excellent opportunities right now for the roosterfish and that bite ws still going strong and didn't seem to be affected by the full moon phase at all. The inshore areas were producing good catches on the roosterfish, bonitos, jack crevalle and groupers.

IZ Climate: Terrific weather, no rain, bright and very clear nights, no clouds, calm waters and light and variable surface breezes and near perfect temperatures that varied from 69 nights to 91 daytime highs.

Sea Conditions: Mostly flat calm waters with almost no swell, excellent clarity and good sea temps that ranged from 84 inshore to 86 offshore.

Best Fishing Area: What bite there was in the offshore waters was still near the 15 mile mark and following this full moon, Temo said the fish should pop right back up in this same area.

Best Bait/Lures: The billfish that were caught were mostly on the rigged trolling baits and the roosterfish were going well on the pencil poppers and live bait.

Bait Supply: Remains readily available for both, fresh caught rigging baits and live bait.
