An excellent fishing week for the Aries Sportfishing Fleet from the Marina El Cid, in Mazatlan. The blue marlin were in action and a couple of the boats were hot on the bite. Biggest fish for the week was a 380 lb. blue marlin, taken by angler Rick O'Neal, San Jacinto Calif., while fishing aboard the Aries IV, with Captain David Cabanillas. Adding to their catch for the day was a smaller blue marlin, (released) and a sailfish. Also, the Aries I, skippered by Captain Jose Zamora, had a similar day for his anglers and checked in with 2 blue marlin, (1 released) and 1 sailfish. The Aries III, skippered by Captain Martin Raygoza, also had a good day with his anglers and reflected 1 blue marlin, 1 sailfish and 1 dorado for his client's dinner. The overall fish counts for the week reflected 5 blue marlin, (2 released) 7 sailfish, (2 released) 6 dorado and 10 yellowfin tuna for a total of 14 days fished. The inshore super pangas, reporting in for 6 days fished, reflected 2 dorado, 3 corvina, 3 jack cravelle, 3 barracuda, 31 triggerfish and 55 red snappers.
Mazatlan Climate: Plenty of sunshine with a few passing clouds and excellent air temps for day & night, ranging from 64 nights to 85 daytime highs.
Sea Conditions: Superb conditions throughout the area with temps holding stable at 84-85 degrees and excellent clarity, light & variable surface breezes and mostly flat surface conditions.
Best Fishing Area: The better action remains out to the southwest of the Marina El Cid at about 20 miles and fishing out bound from there.
Best Lure/Bait: The blue marlin liked the artificials best and the sailfish liked the rigged trolling baits. The yellowfin were all taken on tuna feathers.
Bait Supply: The bait supply has been excellent, even with the full moon conditions and both, live bait and fresh baits for rigging are available everyday.
