Captain Temo Verboonen reports really good fishing and back in close to the Bay, holding pretty well in the 8-mile zone. The sailfish and dorado action continues to provide very good fishing days for the anglers. It seems like the fish are moving in and out, depending on the day of the week. No apparent reason; at least not visible, as to why the fish are moving in and out, but at least they remain eager to bite when they are found. We saw good schools of yellowfin tuna at 18 miles, lots of jumpers but they didn't want to bite. Also, big schools of bonito at about 13 miles that produced some good marlin bites for some of the skippers. The inshore fishing has been best in the Saladita beach area, some 28 miles from the Bay, with big jack crevalle, some roosterfish and bigger Spanish mackerel, (Sierra), but this area requires a 10-hour fishing day at a $75.00 add on for the super pangas. All in all, the fishing continues to be good for our area and it should continue right into the springtime fishing season.

IZ Climate: Mostly sunny days with an occasional passing cloud and temps that ranged from 70 nights to 90 daytime highs. Near picture perfect weather.

Sea Conditions: Mostly calm days with little swells and excellent water clarity. Temps are holding well at 82 inshore to 83 offshore with the normal light and variable surfacer breezes in the 5-10 mph ranges.

Best Fishing Area: Currently at 8 miles from the Bay for the billfish and dorado. Saladita Beach for the roosterfish and jack crevalle, along with big Sierra mackerel.

Best Bait/Lure: Rigged baits have been best for the billfish and the dorado. Live bait best for the roosterfish and jack crevalle. Good spinning tackle action.

Bait Supply: Remains readily available for this area with fresh baits for rigging and live bait for the roosterfish.
