There is still plenty of fishing action at Puerto Morelos

The fishing reports that come from Puerto Morelos are always diverse and offer a wide spectrum variety of Caribbean critters that frequent that area. While not always the big game fish, it seems there is always plenty of action for the anglers and I rate this a number one spot for families and novice anglers. Almost every strike can be from a different species, whether surface or bottom fishing, or both. Another excellent element for this particular area is the proximity to the fishing grounds, which starts just a few minutes from the entrance to the Marina El Cid, with the deep water, (600 feet) right at the entrance to the Marina. Truly, this is one of the unique fishing areas for all of Mexico. This past week has been no different for the fishing report. We had a 14 fish variety for the 26 days fished that reflected 3 dorado, 4 king mackerel, 68 bonito, 2 amberjack, 3 Spanish mackerel, 2 giant Atlantic barracuda, 3 blackfin tuna, 1 needlefish, 4 porgy fish, 9 soap fish, 12 trigger fish, 20 strawberry fish, 29 snapper, (both yellow and red snappers) and 32 grouper.

PM Climate: Partly cloudy but warm days. Temps holding at 64 nights to 88 daytime highs.

Sea Conditions: 81 degrees throughout the area and stable, with good clarity. Surface breezes are mostly light and variable to 15 mph, coming from the easterly directions.

Best Bait/Lure: The ballyhoo continues to be the bait of choice for this area and is readily available on a daily basis.
