The season's 2nd blue marlin was taken aboard the "Aries VIII" this past week and just a few miles from the Marina El Cid Harbor. In conjunction with the early blue marlin were another 2 sailfish, (also early season biters) that added to the overall 15 fish mixed-bag catches through the week. According to our area reporter, Ms. Nayade Gamboa, the boats reported in for a total of 25 days fished and recorded catches that included 1 blue marlin, 2 sailfish, 8 dorado, 2 wahoo, 2 king mackerel, 4 giant Atlantic barracuda, 18 bonito, 4 blackfin tuna, 1 rainbow runner, 2 jack crevalle, 5 triggerfish, 19 banana fish, 2 amberjack, 5 grumpy fish and 28 snapper. The snappers, both red snappers and yellowtail snappers, wound up being the fish of the week.
PM Climate: Partly cloudy but warm & pleasant days and evenings with temps ranging from 72 nights to 87 daytime highs. Surface winds blowing in from the easterly directions at 10-20 mph.
Sea Conditions: Temps holding stable at 80 degrees throughout the area, all with good water clarity. Smaller swells with some P.M. wind chop but all very fishable.
Best Bait/Lures: The forever available ballyhoo baits continue to be the baits of choice for the anglers and the skippers.
Bait Supply: Remains excellent on a daily basis with sufficient fresh baits to rig for trolling or use for bottom fishing.
