According to Captain Roberto Marquez, owner of the Fish Cabo boats, the better fishing was in the Destiladeras area, just south of Las Frailes and southerly, along the 1000 fathom curve, down to the 1150 fathom spot. While billfish were being seen in all of the regular areas on the Sea of Cortez side, 95 Fathom Spot, Chileno, Palmilla Ridge & Gorda Banks, the fish were not very cooperative until you got into the warmer waters from the 1150 and northerly from there. The "Fish Cabo" had 6 stripers for 2 days with 5 fish for a single day, all in the Destiladeras area & all released. Gaviota I had 4 stripers for 4 days fished and the Tuna Time had 3 stripers for 3 days fished, all in the 1150 Fathom area. The overall combined fish counts for 30 days fished reflected 21 stripers, (19 released) 2 yellowtail, 3 skipjack, 3 mako sharks and 28 dorado.
Cabo Climate: Mostly sunny & warm days with a few passing clouds and temps that ranged from 60 nights to 87 daytime highs.
Sea Conditions: Pacific side, Golden Gate to Cabo Falso at 68-71 degrees, from Cabo to Gorda Banks & into the Sea of Cortez at 73-75 degrees, outside the Gorda Banks and along the 1000 fathom curve, temps jump to 79-80 degrees and extending on up to Los Frailes. Pacific side is mostly greenish tinted water and the Sea of Cortez side is mostly clear and blue water.
Best Fishing Area: 1150 Fathom spot and up to Destiladeras area for the billfish.
Best Bait/Lure: Live bait was best for the billfish but some fish were taken on artificials, too.
Live bait Supply: The live bait supply continues to be good and remained pretty good through the full moon phase.
